Simpozionul Anual de Studii Clinice 2024

The 16th Annual Clinical Trials Symposium, held on November 8, 2024, in Bucharest, explored the theme of transforming clinical trials in the era of artificial intelligence. Organized by the AVANTYO Institute of Clinical Research under the patronage of EUCROF and ACCSCR, the event brought together specialists from various fields to discuss innovations and challenges in global clinical research.

Key topics included the role of Europe and Romania in the global context of clinical trials, with a focus on regulatory management and the impact of AI in optimizing processes. The discussions highlighted the growing influence of Asian clinical trials and the declining European share, along with Romania's strategic efforts to develop this sector through patient education and the internationalization of studies.

A dedicated session focused on CAR-T cell therapy in oncology, examining its effectiveness in treating blood cancers and the challenges of expanding this therapy in Romania.

Another panel addressed the importance of decentralized clinical trials (DCT) in the post-pandemic context, emphasizing how they improve patient access and reduce clinic visits. Discussions also covered the use of AI in clinical research for data collection and analysis while acknowledging associated ethical limitations.

The conference concluded with a session on enhancing patient engagement in studies, analyzing barriers such as a lack of information and support in recruiting patients, especially from rural areas.

The symposium provided a platform for idea exchange and collaboration, emphasizing the need for continuous innovation and adaptation to new technologies to address current challenges in clinical research.
